Years ago I snapped a picture of an old dive in Athens, Georgia– a bar called Allen’s. It was a rollicking watering hole for generations of beer drinkers. Sadly, the beloved joint closed down, and suddenly my photograph became a cherished memento of what was once an institution.
I gave a print of that photograph to a friend, a loyal customer of Allen’s, and everyone she shared it with wanted a copy. The overwhelming response to that photograph was a testament to the Allen’s legacy, but it also got me thinking. Doesn’t every town have a favorite drinking establishment, a place that sticks in the hearts of generations of bar patrons? An old stomping ground?
So Barfly was born.
Combining my beer drinking and photography skills, I established Barfly Photography. My goal is to capture the old haunts we can’t imagine life without. Unfortunately for barflies, even the greatest pubs aren’t immortal, so cherish them while they last and consider a keepsake.
These photos make great gifts and have become popular office décor for folks who miss the good ‘ole days. Thank you for supporting my little business, and please tell me about any special watering holes in your neck of the woods. I look forward to drinking in a few new places this year.
Cheers!
